Non-Gaussian corrections to the Gordon-Haus distribution resulting from soliton interactions.

چکیده
In a soliton transmission system, spontaneous emission noise owing to optical amplifiers leads to timing jitter that is usually assumed to be Gaussian distributed. It is shown that the mutual interaction of solitons in neighboring time slots can lead to non-Gaussian tails on the distribution function and to a substantial increase in the bit-error rate. It is argued that the approach used here will also be of use in the study of non-return-to-zero systems.

Non-Gaussian statistics of an optical soliton in the presence of amplified spontaneous emission.
We apply an approach based on the Fokker-Planck equation to study the statistics of optical soliton parameters in the presence of additive noise. This rigorous method not only allows us to reproduce and justify the classical Gordon-Haus formula but also leads to new exact results.

In this paper, we present soliton-like solutions of the non-linear complex Klein-Gordon systems in 1+1 dimensions. We will use polar representation to introduce three different soliton-like solutions including, complex kinks (anti-kinks), radiative profiles, and localized wave-packets. Complex kinks (anti-kinks) are topological objects with zero electrical charges. Radiative profiles are object...
متن کاملGordon-Haus effect on dark solitons.
The theory of the Gordon-Haus effect with application to dark solitons is presented. It is proved analytically that a random frequency shift of a fundamental dark soliton results in a time jitter radical2 times lower than that for bright solitons.
متن کاملGordon–Haus timing jitter in dispersion-managed systems with lumped amplification: analytical approach
We use the moment method to calculate the Gordon–Haus timing jitter of optical pulses in dispersion-managed communication systems designed by use of lumped fiber amplifiers. The use of the Gaussian approximation for the chirped pulses, in combination with variational analysis, allows us to obtain an analytic expression for the timing jitter that is valid for an arbitrary number of amplifiers wi...
متن کاملEffect of Soliton Interaction on Timing Jitter in Communication Systems
Timing jitter in soliton communication systems is studied, taking into account both soliton interaction and amplifier noise. Deviations from Gordon–Haus jitter for closely spaced solitons are observed. A new analytical model for the timing jitter is proposed. The model presented considers interaction in a random sequence of solitons and the effect of the amplified spontaneous emission noise add...
